Lisa Post Ph.D.

Lisa Post is a Clinical Associate Professor, Stanford School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She is Chief of Sports Psychiatry and the Director of the Interpersonal Problems Clinic. She is a member of the faculty of the Stanford/PGSP Consortium Psy.D. program.


Dr. Post is a graduate of Princeton University and received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology - Berkeley. Since 1993, she has worked as a staff psychologist at Stanford University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. In 1994, she became Training Director for the Stanford Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program. In 1996, Dr. Post was appointed Director of the Interpersonal Problems Clinic, an outpatient program for patients with Borderline Personality Disorder and is responsible for training empirically validated psychotherapy to Stanford Medical School Psychiatry residents and Post-doctoral Fellows.


Dr. Post has received specialized training in numerous psychotherapies and has served as a psychotherapist on several important clinical trials studying clinical treatments for chronic depression, bulimia, and sexual abuse survivors. She has received certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy from the Beck Institute, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, from Marsha Linehan’s lab in Seattle, Washington, the Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy for treating chronic depression, and Cognitive Behavioral Treatment of Bulimia from Christopher Fairburn and Stewart Agras.

In 2000, she was appointed Chief of Sports Medicine in Psychiatry.  In this capacity, she coordinates psychiatric services for Stanford University's Sports Medicine Program. She works with Stanford University varsity athletes, coaches, trainers and their team physicians helping athletes address a wide variety of psychosocial stress and psychiatric problems, including performance enhancement. In 2008, Dr. Post accepted the role of Team Psychologist and Psychology Services Consultant to the San Francisco 49ers.  She works with athletes, coordinates the team’s Rookie Development Seminar and works with Stanford Physicians, Training Room personnel, and the Player Development Staff.


Dr. Post is also developing educational outreach programs for the coaching staff and is interested in studying the application of cognitive behavioral techniques to interventions with athletes.


She maintains a private practice in Palo Alto.
